Operation Sunrise is a not for profit organization dedicated to helping children and young adults with cleft lip and palate and other facial birth defects in medically under-served countries around the world.  It coordinates an international effort in which a volunteer team of skilled professionals provides free surgery and related care to children who would otherwise live their entire lives with physically and emotionally crippling disfigurement.  To date, these teams have provided free reconstructive surgery to hundreds of patients.

Operation Sunrise is one of the most committed, successful and cost effective medical programs of its kind.  Unlike other programs, all donations go directly to facilitate some form of direct patient care and none are used for administrative salaries or like expenses.  The average cost of providing a life transforming procedure to a typical patient is as little as two hundred dollars.  With the generous help of its sponsors and volunteer health care professionals, Operation Sunrise teams typically provide over a quarter of a million dollars of surgical services to over thirty-five children each year.

Operation Sunrise is committed to medical education and teaching in host countries with an ultimate goal of helping each achieve medical self-sufficiency.   Local health care professionals are invited to participate in a cooperative effort as integral members of the team and volunteer surgeons teach reconstructive surgery techniques to their host country colleagues.  Anesthesiologists, nurses, dentists, technicians and other team members provide similar instructions to their counterparts as well.
